Ever since my first reading of Dracula at the age of twelve, I’ve been fascinated by vampires. From the beginning, I wondered how the “monsters” felt about the situations in which they were portrayed as villains. As a teenage aspiring writer, I loved creating vampire, werewolf, and ghost heroes, often in romantic relationships. When I wrote my dissertation for a Ph.D. in English literature, naturally I included a chapter on Dracula. After my first novel, Shadow of the Beast, a werewolf tale, was published by a small horror specialty press, I sold a vampire novel, Dark Changeling, to the Hard Shell Word Factory and won an Eppie Award in horror for it. Other horror, fantasy, and paranormal romance e-books from Hard Shell and Amber Quill Press followed, as well as erotic paranormal romances from Ellora’s Cave. It’s a great thrill that my first Silhouette Intimate Moments novel, EMBRACING DARKNESS, is a vampire romance.
