DEAR READERS,
As I write this, it’s the first official day of spring, and it’s cold, cloudy, windy and rainy outside. But the hills are green, and baby lambs and goats cavort in the pastures, and I know warmer days are ahead. But, my goodness, what a long time it’s been since I last wrote. As you can imagine, a lot has happened during the last year and a half—in my life, and I’m sure in yours, too.
First of all, I’ve moved! A year ago, in March 2010, I packed up eighteen years’ worth of memories of my life with Gary, left the home we built together in South Carolina, and moved back to my native state, California. What strange twists and turns we encounter on this Road of Life, don’t we? Who would have thought I’d wind up back in the Kern County mountains, in the valley where my ancestors settled five generations ago, and where I grew up? But that’s where I now find myself, and where I will begin to build my new life.
Of course, writing has remained a huge part of that life, and will, I trust, continue to in the future. When I last wrote, I mentioned I would be starting a new series. Well, the series has become reality, and has acquired a new name: THE SCANDALS OF SIERRA MALONE. The first book in the series, which is set—not coincidentally—in the Kern River Valley where I now live, is called SHERIFF’S RUNAWAY WITNESS. It will be out in May 2011, and you can read more about it on the “Future Releases” page.
The new series features the stories of the four heirs of legendary reclusive billionaire, Sam Malone, who, as he puts it, “lived a full and interesting life, during which I managed to amass a considerable fortune and squander the love of three beautiful women.” As a result, Sam was not privileged to know his own children, all of whom he has outlived. He hopes to atone for his past sins by reaching out to his four granddaughters. Thus, four books are planned for the series, although, as you know if you’ve been following my books in recent years, that number is not written in stone. Does Sam really only have four heirs? Who knows? Stay tuned….
